Prerequisite
Students must begin the course with a well-formulated idea for an empirical research paper and completed data analysis.
Students will be required, before the course begins, to:
(1) take a short questionnaire to gather information about their goals for the class and
(2) share their data analysis/findings that they will be writing about with the instructor.
If the data analysis is not at a stage that is ready for publication, the instructor may ask you to take the course at another time.
Enrollment Restriction
Enrollment is restricted to PhD students in the second year or beyond.
Provides training in the preparation of manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed journals, with a focus on empirical papers. Focuses each week either on a specific section of the paper (i.e., Intro, Results, etc.) or on topics relevant to effective communication and dissemination of ideas, including journal selection, preparation of cover letters, and responses to reviewers. Incorporates student critiques of other students' works in progress as well as develops students' ability to serve as effective coauthors and peer reviewers.

- Demonstrate how to formulate and organize an empirical paper
- Produce a manuscript to be submitted to a peer-reviewed journal
- Offer critical feedback as a peer reviewer
