Description
To master skills related to study design and prepare yourself for working on the dissertation proposal. Public health practitioners need to learn how to refine research questions and match questions to a study design.
Provides a grounding in research study design and supports students as they begin to think about their thesis topics and research. Familiarizes students with identifying research questions, developing a conceptual framework, and developing a study design. Focuses on alternative epistemologies.
Learning Objectives
Upon successfully completing this course, students will be able to:
  1. Design a dissertation proposal to address a public health issue.
  2. Evaluate potential research ideas for feasibility and discuss potential challenges to implementation during the dissertation phase of the DrPH program.
  3. Describe the components of the dissertation proposal, including the creation of a conceptual framework, conducting a literature review, and choosing appropriate methods and data sources to address research questions.
